What we collect
- An anonymous account. The app creates one when you first open it. It has no name, email or phone number.
- Receipt numbers you add. Stored encrypted. We also keep a keyed hash of each receipt number so the same case is recognized when it is added again.
- Case status from USCIS. The status, its date and the status history USCIS reports for each receipt, with the receipt number masked inside the status text.
- What you tell us about a case (optional): a nickname, whether you requested an expedite or premium processing, your category, chargeability, the purpose of an I-131 and a country where the app asks for one.
- Push notification tokens, if you turn notifications on.
- App Store purchase records, if you subscribe to Pro: the product, dates and renewal state Apple sends us. We never see your payment details.
- Operational records: when each case was checked and whether USCIS answered, and when your app last used our service.
How we use it
- To check your cases with USCIS and notify you of changes.
- To show statistics such as how long similar cases take. Statistics are built from cases' forms, offices, dates and status histories and never show receipt numbers or anything you entered as a nickname.
- To provide Pro features you subscribed to.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it except with the services that run the app (Amazon Web Services for hosting, Apple for notifications and purchases) and USCIS, which we ask for your case status.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept |
|---|---|
| A case you track, with its history | While anyone tracks it |
| A case nobody tracks any more (hash, form, office, dates, status history; no receipt number) | Indefinitely, for statistics |
| Your account, case list, nicknames, details answers, notification settings and push tokens | Until you delete your data, or about 12 months after you last used the app (see below) |
| App Store purchase records | Until your account is deleted |
| Records of each check | 90 days |
| Sent or failed notifications | 30 days |
| Ended sign-in sessions | 30 days after they end |
| Notifications Apple sends us about subscriptions | 1 year |
If you don't use the app for 11 months, we send one notification asking you to open it. If you still don't, your account is deleted as if you had deleted it yourself, once 12 months have passed since you last used the app and at least 30 days have passed since that notification. Opening the app at any point before then keeps your account.
Deleting your data
In the app, open Settings and tap Delete my data. We immediately delete your account, sign-in sessions, push tokens, queued notifications, case list with nicknames and details answers, and App Store purchase records. Removing a single case removes it from your list in the same way.
When nobody else tracks a case, we erase its receipt number and stop checking it. We keep its keyed hash and its form, office, dates and status history for statistics. Because we hold the key to that hash, this data is pseudonymous rather than anonymous. If you add the same receipt number again later, the case picks up its history.
Deleting your data does not cancel a Pro subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID's subscription settings.
Security
Receipt numbers are encrypted at rest. Data is stored in the United States on Amazon Web Services. Receipt numbers never appear in our logs.
Children
Case Tracker is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We will post any change to this policy on this page with a new effective date.
